Personalized Jewelry - by Christopher Dawson
When buying a gift for a loved one, there are often a number of criteria that must be met. If the present is intended to convey an expression of love, romantic or indeed platonic, then it should be personal, touching and meaningful. Such items can sometimes seem impossible to find, given the homogenized nature of today’s high streets and shopping malls. Every chain store stocks the same product line, so a gift that you hope to be unique may turn out to be something that the receiver has already seen, or worse yet bought.
The answer to this conundrum lies in the world of personalized gifts, or more specifically, personalized jewelry. As a classic gift, particularly from a man to a woman, an item of jewelry has always been the go-to solution for men looking to please their female counterparts. What could be more caring or romantic than presenting someone you love with a precious stone, expertly implemented into a beautiful ring, necklace, bracelet or pair of earrings?
By its very nature, jewelry is a personal gift. Its purchase is intended to satisfy the tastes and desires of just one person, and therefore must be unique. In order to assure this, and to give the piece an even more personal touch, customization is the key. The presentation of diamond ring is, and always has been, a powerful expression of love. This is made even more overwhelmingly romantic when the ring is engraved with a personal message, something that is shared only by the two parties involved.
A message of this sort should be kept short and sweet, but it may be best to avoid clichés if possible. Although an engraving that reads “I love you” or “yours forever” may have a strong impact at first, it doesn’t hold the same kind of lasting appeal as something more personal. A good example is use of the combined initials of the two parties. This ensures that the piece of jewelry in question can only be a symbol of love between those two people, rather than anyone who happens to buy that piece and their partner.
This kind of personalization can be augmented even further with the addition of an important date. The date the couple first met, the date some personal or career milestone was reached or perhaps the date of the wedding can all serve as poignant reminders of important moments in life. A specific time could be even more effective, or indeed the name of a place. The possibilities are endless.
Although engraving is perhaps the powerful and romantic way of personalizing a piece of jewelry, there are other options available. Many stores and websites now give customers the opportunity to customize the designs of the actual jewelry. It’s possible to have a piece custom made in order to incorporate somebody’s birthstone, name or otherwise into the design. This approach can be very rewarding, but for the many people who trust the professional jewelers to produce wonderful designs, engraving is a thoughtful and effective form of personalization.
